We made the design, CMS is working, we added the content and the client is happy. It is time to launch the website. Or not? Before launching a website, you can forget some things in your haste to see your website live. It is useful to have a list of things that you have to do, with the latest details and touches, before you launch the website worldwide.

The following list will highlight some steps that you must not forget:

Favicon

The favicon is to tag or mark the website in the browser window. It automatically saves the bookmark, facilitating identification of the site for users, according to the image that displays it. Some browsers save your favicon in the directory as favicon.ico, but to make sure that it is running all the time, includes the following syntax in the head:

<link rel=”icon” type=”image/x-icon” href=”/favicon.ico” />

Titles and meta data

Your page title is an important element for SEO and for your users, who will know the contents page, depending on it. Be sure to change the title on each page and be linked to this page.

<title>Advance-hr</title>

For most browsers, the meta descriptions are not as important for SEO as the titles, but is still a good idea to include them. Change the description on every page, in order to be conected with the content, because that's what Google shows at search results.

<meta name=”description” content=”Art is the expression of creativity or imagination. Art is commonly understood as the act of making works (or artworks) which use the human creative impulse and which have meaning beyond simple description.”</meta>

Browser compatibility

Just when you thought that the design looks perfect, check it in IE and see that everything is broken. It is important that your website is compatible with all browsers. It doesn't have to be perfect in design, but it must be functional and the user should not notice any problems. Browsers that you need to keep in mind: Chrome, Safari 3, Firefox 3, Internet Explorer 6, 7, 8.

Links

Do not assume that all links go by itself. Check them. It can happen to forget to add "http://" to external links. Do not forget also the general rule, to make the logo link to the homepage.

Also analyze your links. Are these links evident to the new users? These should be clearly visible on the page. Do not underline text not link, because it will confuse the users.

Validation

Your goal should be the site to be 100% validated. That said, is not a tragedy if your site does not validate, but it is important to know the reasons for not going, so you can fix various errors. Some of the most common errors are the lack of tag "other", omitting the closing tags and the use of "&" instead of "&".

Traffic analysis tools

Installing tools of analysis is useful in measuring the number statistics of your visitors and of how your website works. Among these tools we call them: Google Analyctics, Clicky, Kissmetrics, Mint, StatCounter.

Optimization

We all want our website to function at maximum efficiency. Some steps that you should not forget them: reducing HTTP applications, optimizing images for web, compressing javascript and CSS tabs.

Back-up

If your website relies on a database, you need a back-up solution. This way, you avoid the risk of losing information. If you use WordPress, install WordPress Database Backup, which you can set it to send you saves by mail.
