Do blogs help with your SEO efforts?

The buzz about them sure implies that they do! While there is some truth to that, blogs mainly just help with your overall marketing efforts. Like anything else SEO related, no one practice is going to make or break you (we'll maybe break you if you're spamming!).

It's no big secret that blogs can be a used to give your website an improvement in the ranking of your website in the search engines. In this article I discuss how you can best used a blog to drive more traffic to your website.

While the main goal of a blog is generally to express your thoughts and opinions it can be used to offer advice or simly talk on a topic.

Blog Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

When Google finds an active blog it tends to crawl it more frequently and more often and thus place more freshness ranking on it when deciding on how the pages in the blog should place in the search engines.  When a blog is updated frequently, like atleast 5 times a week, it gets a high freshness ranking.

The freshness of content is what Google likes to see in a blog.  Ideally the blog would provide for segments of information that over time build up to show and present a larger theme enhancing and building the credibility of the overall website.

There is evidence that once Google has seen and experienced the frequency of updating on your blog that it will give you high rankings on these particular web pages within your website.  Once you have this power then you can use it to flow on affect on the rest of your website using linking methods, either around or within the text.

I like to use blogs to enhance the theme of your website but also to provide good information and grab the readers attention - use it to get your message out but don't forget to take the time to optimise titles and content with keywords and text to further enhance your SEO .. lets face it we all want to see greater results in the SERP's (Search Engine Results Pages).
