When Websites Go Bad

Sometimes you need to have the obvious pointed out before you take notice, like the mirror by the front door making sure your hair isn't a complete mess before you walk down the street. So hold a mirror up to your website and see if you are guilty of committing any of the following design blunders that might be turning off your customers.

How quickly does your website open, have you got a fancy, entertaining flash intro to welcome your visitors. These can seriously slow site performance down and chances are by the time it has opened they have looked at three other sites.

Is you landing page full, lots of bright exciting images, loads of text; bells, buttons and whistles everywhere. Too much information will confuse the viewer, remember to keep the design simple and easy to understand and follow.

Is your text too small to comfortably read, have you chosen a florid script, beautiful to look at but murder to read. Have you crammed too much content onto the page? The ease with which your text can be read will determine how long visitors stay.

Are there large format graphic images that take ages downloading or files that are simply missing? Both of these give the impression you do not care about the site or your customers, not a good message to be giving off.

Sites that have no contrast, all grey, blinking logos, under construction signs, and masses of adverts all discourage your guests from taking a closer look at your site. So come on, comb your hair! If you are interested in more information on website design contact Attitude.
